Buy a Bip! card (1,550 CLP) at any metro station on arrival. It works on all metro lines, city buses (Red buses), and MetroTren, and a single fare covers a metro-plus-bus transfer within two hours. The Santiago Metro runs 6 a.m.–11 p.m. and is fast, clean, and air-conditioned — the best way to move between neighborhoods. Use Uber, Cabify, or DiDi for night travel and trips to outer neighborhoods. Metered street taxis also exist but are harder to hail in unfamiliar areas. Note that while rideshare apps operate widely and safely in practice, they exist in a legal grey area in Chile — your driver may ask you to sit in front to avoid police stops.
